Position Overview
A leading healthcare system in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced Locum Tenens Critical Care Physician (MD/DO) to provide high‑acuity inpatient care within a busy ICU setting. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive critical care management for ICU patients, including ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and complex medical decision‑making.
- Perform ICU procedures such as central lines, arterial lines, intubations, chest tubes, and bedside ultrasound (depending on facility requirements).
- Conduct daily rounds, admissions, consults, and multidisciplinary care coordination.
- Collaborate closely with hospitalists, surgeons, cardiologists, nephrologists, and nursing staff.
- Interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory results to guide treatment plans.
- Participate in rapid response and code situations as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to hospital protocols and regulatory standards.
Assignment Details
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts (6:30p-6:30a), specific dates
- Setting: 2x 20-bed medical and surgical ICUs
- Patient Census: 17-18 per unit per night
- Support Staff: APPs
- EMR: Epic
- Board certification required
- Paid travel & expenses
Qualifications
- MD or DO with board certification or board eligibility in Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary/Critical Care, or Anesthesiology Critical Care
- Active Texas medical license (or ability to obtain)
- Current DEA registration
- Strong procedural and critical‑care management skills
- Ability to work independently in a high‑acuity environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
