Risk & Fraud Lead (iGaming - Prediction Markets)

HRLadderBox, on behalf of our client, is seeking an experienced Risk & Fraud Lead to build and own the company’s end-to-end Risk & Fraud function across Sports Betting, Online Gaming, Payments, and exciting new Prediction Markets product.

This is a unique opportunity for a senior Risk & Fraud professional who thrives in a high-growth environment and enjoys building functions from the ground up. As a hands-on individual contributor, you will design and implement the company’s fraud strategy, operating model, controls, investigation frameworks, governance structures, and risk processes to support a rapidly scaling international iGaming business.

A key focus of this role will be partnering with Product, Technology, Trading, Payments, and Commercial teams to support the company’s Prediction Markets initiative. You will design and implement controls to mitigate risks including payment fraud, market manipulation, collusion, account abuse, bonus abuse, suspicious trading activity, and other emerging threats unique to prediction market products.

We are looking for a highly experienced Risk & Fraud professional with a strong background in global regulated iGaming markets. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise across sportsbook, casino, payments, player behaviour, AML, KYC, fraud prevention, and market integrity, with a proven track record of building scalable Risk & Fraud frameworks that balance commercial growth, regulatory compliance, and player protection.

While this role will have ownership of the Risk & Fraud function, it does not initially include direct people management responsibilities. Instead, this is a hands-on leadership opportunity to establish the foundations, processes, and capabilities required for future team growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and own the company’s end-to-end Risk & Fraud function across Sports Betting, Online Gaming, Payments, and Prediction Markets.
• Design and implement the Risk & Fraud operating model, including policies, procedures, governance frameworks, controls, and investigation processes.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive fraud prevention and risk management strategy that scales with business growth.
• Create and optimise fraud detection rules, risk scoring models, monitoring frameworks, and automated decision-making processes.
• Lead the design of fraud prevention controls for Prediction Markets, addressing risks such as:
  • Market manipulation
  • Collusion
  • Suspicious trading activity
  • Multi-accounting
  • Account takeover
  • Bonus abuse
  • Payment fraud
• Monitor, analyse, and investigate suspicious player activity, transactional behaviour, and payment patterns across all products.
• Identify emerging fraud trends and proactively develop mitigation strategies to reduce financial and operational risk.
• Build fraud detection capabilities using transactional data, behavioural analytics, payment intelligence, and customer insights.
• Establish Risk & Fraud KPIs, dashboards, reporting frameworks, and risk metrics to support business decision-making.
• Partner with Product, Technology, Payments, Trading, Compliance, AML, Customer Operations, and Data teams to embed fraud controls throughout the customer lifecycle.
• Assess fraud risks associated with new products, payment methods, promotions, and market expansion initiatives.
• Ensure Risk & Fraud processes align with AML, KYC, Responsible Gaming, and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Evaluate, recommend, and implement fraud prevention tools, technologies, and third-party solutions.
• Develop and maintain Risk & Fraud policies, operational playbooks, documentation, and investigation frameworks.
• Stay informed on emerging fraud trends, payment risks, regulatory developments, and industry best practices across iGaming, fintech, and prediction markets.
• Act as the company’s Risk & Fraud subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance and hands-on expertise across the business.

About You

• 5+ years of experience in Risk & Fraud roles within Sports Betting, iGaming, Online Gaming, FinTech, Payments, or Prediction Markets.
• Proven experience building, scaling, or transforming Risk & Fraud functions, frameworks, and operating models.
• Strong experience working across regulated international markets.
• Deep understanding of sportsbook, online casino, and player behaviour.
• Experience designing or supporting fraud controls for Prediction Markets or event-based trading products is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of fraud typologies, including:

  • Chargebacks
  • Account takeover
  • Bonus abuse

  • Market manipulation
• Strong understanding of payment ecosystems, including cards, e-wallets, alternative payment methods, and mobile money.
• Experience designing fraud rules, risk engines, investigation workflows, and case management processes.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large volumes of transactional and behavioural data.
• Experience working with fraud monitoring platforms, risk engines, BI tools, and reporting solutions.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
• Strong understanding of AML, KYC, Responsible Gaming, and iGaming regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• A proactive, strategic, and hands-on approach with a passion for building scalable solutions.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with Prediction Markets or exchange-style betting products.
• Experience supporting businesses operating across Africa, LATAM, Asia, or other emerging markets.
• Knowledge of blockchain, crypto payments, or digital asset ecosystems.
• Experience implementing AI or machine learning solutions for fraud detection.
• Familiarity with international gaming regulations and licensing frameworks.
• Experience evaluating and implementing enterprise fraud prevention technologies.
